Overview
Registered in 2009 as a sport of a *Hosta* 'Frosted Jade' seedling, 'Summer Showcase' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its muted bi-color pattern of green leaves with wide, pale yellow margins. The leaves are nearly round with cordate bases, lightly cupped and twisted, and exhibit a flat, dull to slightly shiny surface with 14 to 16 vein pairs.
In the Garden
Reaching 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, 'Summer Showcase' forms an upright to mounding clump with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its large, muted foliage provides a textural contrast alongside ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials. Due to its substantial size, it is best used as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border rather than in containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through cultural or physical controls.
