Overview

Registered in 2013 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Captain Kirk', 'Suliban' is a small-sized hosta distinguished by its multicolored streaking in tones of green, yellow, and creamy white against green leaves with white margins. The ovate, lightly corrugated leaves measure 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 3.25 inches (8.3 cm) wide, with 9 to 10 vein pairs and dull surfaces on both sides.

In the Garden

'Suliban' forms a compact, fast-growing mound reaching 14.75 inches (37.5 cm) in height and 20.5 inches (52.1 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of shade borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or woodland perennials such as *Heuchera* and *Tiarella*. Its small stature also makes it a candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
