Overview

Registered in 2004, this medium-sized sport of an unnamed parent is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with gold margins that undergo a complete reversal of center and marginal colors during the growing season. The foliage emerges dark green with greenish-yellow edges, then transitions so that the margins become the dominant color and the centers shift to a lighter tone.

In the Garden

Forming a mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) wide, this cultivar is suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its ovate leaves with cordate bases and lightly wavy margins provide textural contrast when paired with ferns or shade-tolerant perennials. The green scapes, reaching 18 to 20 inches (45.7 to 50.8 cm), carry flowers that complement the foliage without dominating the display.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, this cultivar may require protection from slugs and deer, particularly when foliage is young and tender.
