Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Striker' is a sport of an unnamed parent, producing a small, compact clump of medium green leaves with narrow white margins. The foliage is characterized by a slightly shiny upper surface, a dull underside, and tapered leaf bases, with leaf blades measuring 4 inches (10.2 cm) long and 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) wide, bearing 4 to 5 vein pairs and a 0.25-inch (0.6 cm) wide, white, slightly rippled margin.
In the Garden
This diminutive hosta reaches a mature spread of 20 inches (50.8 cm) and a height of 9 inches (22.9 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its compact size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slugs and deer may cause damage; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed.
