Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'High Noon' registered by the American Hosta Society in 2001, 'Stratosphere' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its golden yellow leaves with narrow, light green margins. The broadly ovate, flat leaves measure 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, with 13 vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
'Stratosphere' forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for gold-margined hostas, where the leaf color remains brightest. The grayish green scapes rise to 29 inches (73.7 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its gold-and-green foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Stratosphere' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
