Overview

Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Storm' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Grand Slam' (seed parent) and *Hosta* 'Crested Surf' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive visual features are the medium blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with heavy rippled margins, a lightly cupped profile, and deeply wavy edges, which together create a textured, stormy appearance.

In the Garden

'Hosta' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching approximately 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its small stature. Companion plants that appreciate similar conditions include ferns, heucheras, and small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slug and deer damage, the heavily rippled and cupped leaves of 'Storm' may offer some minor resistance; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
