Overview
Registered in 2004 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Stone's Yellow Leaf' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and green veins. The ovate leaves, measuring 7.25 inches (18.4 cm) long and 5.25 inches (13.3 cm) wide, feature 11 pairs of green veins, a yellow-green slightly rippled margin, and a flat base with light waviness.
In the Garden
This slow-growing, mound-forming hosta reaches 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 21.5 inches (54.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the middle of a shaded border or as a groundcover in woodland gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, with light green scapes reaching up to 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials complement its muted foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
