Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Stingray' is a large, variegated hybrid derived from *H. kikutti* as pod parent and *H. montana* as pollen parent. Its most distinctive features are medium green leaves with heavy, rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a very shiny underside, combined with a rounded leaf base and 11 to 13 vein pairs.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. The green scape reaches up to 72 inches (182.9 cm) in height, though flower details are not recorded.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
