Overview

Registered in 2006, *Hosta* 'Stimulation' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar of unknown parentage, notable for its uniquely congested flower buds and spider-like blossoms. The plant forms a mound of broadly ovate, dark green leaves with serrated margins, a very shiny surface on both sides, and a lightly twisted, moderately flat blade.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 35 inches (88.9 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hostas, and its glossy, dark green leaves provide strong contrast when paired with golden or blue-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or *H. sieboldiana* varieties. The 30-inch (76.2 cm) scapes bear unique, congested buds and spider-like flowers, adding textural interest to the late-season garden. Its medium size makes it suitable for mixed borders or as a specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents are advisable, as with most hostas.
