Overview
Registered in 1987 by breeder P. Aden, 'Stiletto' is a miniature hosta distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with heavily undulating margins. The foliage is green with white margins, and the leaf blade measures 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by just 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide, with three vein pairs.
In the Garden
At maturity, 'Stiletto' forms a compact clump 8 inches (20.3 cm) in diameter and 6 inches (15.2 cm) tall, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small perennials such as miniature ferns or sedges. Its diminutive size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Stiletto' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
