Overview
Registered in 1997 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Wide Brim', 'Stetson' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with wide, yellow-gold margins that exhibit heavy rippling. The leaf blades measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) wide, with 9 to 10 vein pairs, and have a slightly shiny upper surface with a dull underside and a flat base.
In the Garden
'Stetson' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The plant's substantial size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Stetson' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
