Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Stellar by Starlight' is a large hybrid between *H. 'Dorothy Benedict'* and *H. hypoleuca*. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins, a glaucous bloom on the undersides, and upright, slow-growing habit.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of approximately 29 inches (73.7 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), with scapes rising 32 to 35 inches (81.3 to 88.9 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its upright form and large leaves make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are common.
