Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Status Quo' is a small, fast-growing cultivar derived from an open-pollinated streaked seedling of *Hosta* 'Gray Cole' crossed with *Hosta* 'Justice'. Its most distinctive feature is the stable, creamy white streaking that appears as irregular margins and internal streaks on medium blue-green leaves, a pattern that persists reliably in the garden.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 10 inches (24.4 cm) in diameter, this small hosta forms a dense, mound-like clump with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color and white streaking are most pronounced. Its compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers, and it pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Status Quo' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small, thick leaves offer moderate resistance.
