Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Statue of Liberty' is a large, upright variegated cultivar resulting from a cross between (*H.* 'Fragrant Blue' × *H.* 'Halcyon') and *H. plantaginea*. Its most distinctive features are the very shiny, broadly ovate leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins and a flat base, which grow to 11 inches (27.9 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 60 inches (152.4 cm) and a height of 30 inches (76.2 cm), with scapes rising 44 to 48 inches (111.8 to 121.9 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade and is suitable for typical hosta-growing zones. Its large size makes it an effective specimen or background plant in shaded borders, and it can be paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitor and manage as needed.
