Overview
Registered in 1973 by M. Eisel, this miniature hosta arose as a sport and is distinguished by its green leaves with white margins. The foliage measures 3 inches (7.6 cm) in length and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in width, with three vein pairs and a white margin bordering dark green centers.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Starlight' reaches a mature size of approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter and 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height. As a miniature cultivar, it is well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs effectively with other small woodland perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its compact dimensions also make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Standard hosta care applies: water regularly to maintain even moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage and should be managed as needed.
