Overview
Registered in 1998, *Hosta* 'Stardust' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'White Vision' (pod parent) and *Hosta montana macrophylla* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with yellow-gold, slightly rippled margins and its substantial mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Stardust' forms a broad mound reaching approximately 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large leaf size and substantial spread make it suitable as a specimen or as part of a mixed border, though it is not well suited to container culture due to its mature dimensions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
