Overview

Registered in 1995 by J. & J. Wilkins, this medium-sized cultivar arose as a sport of a *Hosta* 'William Lachman' seedling. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaf centers with wide gold margins, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold-center, blue-green-edge arrangement found in many hostas.

In the Garden

'Star Struck' forms a mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest; excessive sun may scorch the leaf edges. The rounded, slightly shiny leaves with 11 vein pairs and a glaucous underside make it a textural companion for ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials. Its white scapes, reaching 16 to 20 inches (40.6 to 50.8 cm), bear pale flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
