Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Star Power' is a giant hybrid produced from a cross between *H. 'Komodo Dragon'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Super Bowl'* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its large, blue-green leaves with wide, rippled golden margins, upright posture, and moderate corrugation.

In the Garden

Mature plants reach 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with an upright, moderately spreading habit. Leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, measuring 14 inches (35.6 cm) long by 10 inches (25.4 cm) wide, and display 15 vein pairs; the upper surface is dull, while the underside bears a glaucous bloom. The leaf margins are yellow, medium to heavily rippled, and the blade is lightly folded and moderately corrugated. Scapes rise 30 to 32 inches (76.2 to 81.3 cm) and are light gold in color. This cultivar performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and can serve as a bold specimen or background plant in large borders or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this large-leaved hosta.
