Overview
Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Standing Tall' is a giant upright cultivar derived from a first-generation seedling of *H. 'Dorothy Benedict'* with unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its large, nearly round, blue-green leaves with unstable streaks of yellow and creamy white, white margins, and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches 37 inches (94.0 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with an upright habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials. Its substantial leaf substance and upright form make it a strong specimen plant for borders or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, the thick, corrugated leaves of 'Standing Tall' offer moderate resistance.
