Overview

Registered in 1988 by Kuk's Forest Nursery, 'Squire Rich' is a medium-sized hosta of unknown parentage. Its leaves are green with bright golden margins, displaying small undulations along the leaf edges, with a dull upper surface and glossy underside.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a clump 23 inches (58.4 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height, with leaves 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide, bearing 10 vein pairs. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size suits it for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. The gold-margined foliage pairs well with dark-leaved heucheras or ferns.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage foliage; deer are known to browse hostas and may require protective measures.
