Overview
Registered in 1990 by U. Syre-Herz, 'Spun Silk' is a medium-sized hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta* 'August Moon'. Its leaves are green with yellow to green-yellow margins, a coloration that distinguishes it from many gold-margined cultivars.
In the Garden
'Spun Silk' reaches a mature diameter of 35 inches (88.9 cm) and a height of 17 inches (43.2 cm), with scapes up to 24 inches (61.0 cm) tall. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs may damage foliage; deer browsing is also a potential concern in areas where these pests are present.
