Overview
Registered in 2000, this medium-sized hosta cultivar arose from a cross between *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' and a seedling of the same parent. 'Spring Break' is visually distinctive for its light green leaves with creamy white margins, the margins measuring approximately 0.38 inches (1.0 cm) wide and bearing a slight ripple.
In the Garden
'Spring Break' forms a mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, especially in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Spring Break' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and take protective measures as needed.
