Overview
Registered in 2002, 'Spike Jones' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown pollen parentage with *Hosta densa* as the seed parent. It is visually distinctive for its symmetrical, rotating-out growth habit, lance-shaped leaves with light to medium green flat margins, and pointed leaf tips.
In the Garden
This small hosta reaches a mature diameter of 25 inches (63.5 cm) and forms a dense, mound-like clump with a moderate growth rate. Its arching green scapes rise 20 to 24 inches (50.8 to 61.0 cm) above the foliage, and the overall symmetry of both leaves and flower scapes radiating from the center makes it suitable for edging, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with partial to full shade and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as with most hostas.
