Overview
Registered in 2009 by an unknown hybridizer, *Hosta* 'South Pacific' is a giant variegated cultivar distinguished by its heavily corrugated, broadly ovate leaves with medium green, heavily rippled margins. The leaf surface is dull on both sides, with a cordate base and 12 vein pairs, creating a deeply textured appearance.
In the Garden
This mound-forming hosta reaches a mature diameter of 60 inches (152.4 cm) and a height of 30 inches (76.2 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or in the middle to back of shaded borders. The bold foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its corrugated texture.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as both pests may damage the foliage.
