Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Sophisticated Lady' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Pin Stripe Sister'*. It is visually distinguished by its medium green leaves with broad, creamy white, heavily rippled margins and a cordate base.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense, slow-growing mound reaching 15 inches (38 cm) in height and 36 inches (91 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, and its substantial leaf size pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. The green scapes, reaching 22 to 26 inches (56 to 66 cm), carry pale lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
