Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Solo Flight' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage (pollen parent not recorded) with *Hosta* 'Glacier Cascade' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is the intensely folded, lance-shaped leaves that form a very upright, canoe-like mound, with blue-green upper surfaces and a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
'Solo Flight' reaches a mature height of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its upright habit and good leaf substance make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where its folded foliage provides textural contrast. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Solo Flight' has good leaf substance, standard slug and deer precautions are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
