Overview
Registered in 1980 by L. Simpers, this small hosta is believed to be a sport of an unnamed parent. Its variegated leaves feature medium green margins with a lighter center, and the plant forms a compact mound reaching 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Snowstorm' performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage remains most stable. At maturity, it forms a tidy, rounded clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Its small size makes it an effective edging plant or a complement to ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
