Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Snowbird' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage, derived from a seedling of *H.* 'Bravo'. It is visually distinctive for its compact, upright mound of medium green leaves edged with a broad, pure white margin of approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm), which is slightly rippled.

In the Garden

'Snowbird' reaches a mature height of 6 inches (15.2 cm) and a spread of 8 inches (20.3 cm), with leaves 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide. Its moderate growth rate and upright habit make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging in partial to full shade. It pairs well with other small hostas or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras, and is an excellent candidate for container cultivation due to its compact size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
