Overview
Registered in 1986 by F. Williams, this small hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta sieboldii* (pod parent) and *Hosta plantaginea* (pollen parent). 'Slim Polly' is visually distinctive for its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with green margins and a lighter center, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
'Slim Polly' reaches a mature size of 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its compact habit also makes it a candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
