Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Skyward' is a giant-sized cultivar distinguished by its upright, slow-growing habit and bold foliage: large, blue-green leaves with broad, creamy white, slightly rippled margins. The leaves measure up to 14.75 inches (37.5 cm) long and 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) wide, with 16 to 17 pairs of veins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

'Skyward' reaches a mature diameter of 35 inches (88.9 cm) and a height of 25 inches (63.5 cm), with flower scapes extending 27 to 33 inches (68.6 to 83.8 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or focal point in shaded borders, woodland gardens, or large containers. Its upright form and variegated leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Skyward' may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing; monitor and manage as needed.
