Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Sky King' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar derived from *H. 'White Triumphator'* with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its symmetrical, low mound of elliptic leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and prominent veins, combined with exceptionally tall flower scapes reaching 48 to 58 inches (121.9–147.3 cm).

In the Garden

'Sky King' forms a dense, mound-like clump 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33.0 cm) high, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, and its tall scapes make it a useful specimen for adding vertical interest to shaded borders or woodland gardens. The medium size suits it for grouping with other shade perennials such as ferns or astilbes, though its compact habit also allows placement in larger containers.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as growth emerges; slug and deer damage may occur and should be monitored.
