Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Sky High' is a giant cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, derived from a first-generation seedling of *H. 'Dorothy Benedict'*. It is distinguished by its exceptionally upright, tall clump of glaucous blue-green leaves, reaching nearly one meter in height, with scapes that extend even further above the foliage.
In the Garden
'Sky High' is best suited to a site with morning sun and afternoon shade, or dappled light throughout the day, where its blue-green foliage will maintain its color. At maturity, the clump reaches 119 cm (47 in) in diameter and 99 cm (39 in) in height, with scapes rising 104 to 122 cm (41 to 48 in). Its substantial, deeply corrugated leaves and upright habit make it a strong structural element in the border; it pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves are moderately resistant to slug damage, though standard precautions may be warranted in damp conditions.
