Overview
Registered in 2006 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Singing in the Rain' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, blue-green leaves with broad, pale yellow margins. The leaf surface and underside both carry a glaucous bloom, which contributes to the muted, cool-toned appearance of the foliage.
In the Garden
'Singing in the Rain' forms a substantial mound, with individual leaves reaching 9 inches (22.9 cm) in length and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in width. The plant is suited to partial to full shade, as is typical for most hostas, and performs best in moist, well-drained soil. Its large size and vigorous growth make it appropriate for mid-border or as a specimen in shaded beds; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Regular watering is essential during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
