Overview
Registered in 2011, this small hosta cultivar was bred from *H.* 'Astral Bliss' and *H.* 'Purple Verticulated Elf'. Its most distinctive visual features are the intensely blue-green, deeply cupped and folded leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, combined with slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
'Silver Tongued Devil' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its small size makes it well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; slug control may be necessary in damp conditions, though the glaucous leaf bloom offers some natural resistance.
