Overview

Registered in 1995 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Silver Dust' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its medium blue-green leaves with smooth margins, a glaucous bloom on the upper surface, and a slightly shiny underside, with cordate leaf bases and 12 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature size of 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, with a semi-upright habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for most hostas, and pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas with high pest pressure.
