Overview
Registered in 1996 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Halcyon', 'Silver Creek Sunshine' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its heavily rippled, medium green leaves with a dull upper surface and highly glossy underside. The variegated foliage, combined with a tapered leaf base and six vein pairs, creates a textured, compact appearance.
In the Garden
'Silver Creek Sunshine' forms a dense mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its small size and neat habit allow pairing with fine-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and it performs well in containers. The green scapes, reaching 22 to 26 inches (55.9 to 66.0 cm) in height, bear typical hosta flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones; monitor and manage as needed.
