Overview
Registered in 1986 by E. Fisher and the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Silver Bowl' is a giant-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its large, cupped blue-green leaves with wide blue-green margins, forming a dense, symmetrical mound.
In the Garden
'Silver Bowl' reaches a mature spread of 57 inches (144.8 cm) and a height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in the middle to back of a border. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size precludes container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
