Overview
Registered in 1999 by the Russ O'Harra Hosta Society, 'Silver Anniversary' is a giant blue-green hosta of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, cordate leaves with slightly rippled margins, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a large, mound-like clump reaching 72 inches (183 cm) in diameter and 34 inches (86 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is best suited to partial or dappled shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green foliage maintains its color. Its substantial size makes it an effective specimen or background plant in woodland gardens and mixed shade borders; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures are advisable.
