Overview
Registered in 1993, 'Sherwood Forest' is a large blue-green hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Carnival'. Its most distinctive features are the very shiny upper leaf surface, a glaucous bloom on the underside, and medium green, slightly rippled leaf margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 42 inches (106.7 cm) and a height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. The broad, nearly round leaves (10 inches long by 9.5 inches wide) with flat bases pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size limits container suitability to large pots or raised planters.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and employ barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
