Overview
Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society, 'Sherborne Profusion' is a small hosta cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow blue margins. The leaves measure 4 inches (10.2 cm) long by 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, with eight pairs of veins, and the plant forms a compact mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
This small hosta is well-suited for shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where its tidy dimensions allow it to fit into tight spaces. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, and reaches a mature spread of about 12 inches (30.5 cm) with a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm). Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials complement its compact form without overwhelming it.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Sherborne Profusion' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
