Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Shell Bell' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Vanilla Cream' that forms a small, mound-like clump. Its leaves are greenish yellow with a golden yellow, slightly rippled margin approximately 1.3 cm wide, and the leaf surface is dull on both sides.

In the Garden

'Shell Bell' reaches a mature height of 20.3 cm and a spread of 38.1 cm, with a moderate growth rate. It is suited to partial shade and typical hosta-growing zones, where its compact size makes it appropriate for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants might include small ferns or shade-tolerant groundcovers.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable.
