Overview

Registered in 2007 by L. G. Jones, *Hosta* 'Shazaam' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from an open-pollinated cross with *H.* 'William Lachman' as the pod parent. It is visually distinguished by its dark green, broadly ovate leaves with wide (1 in/2.5 cm), yellow, slightly rippled margins and a dull upper surface.

In the Garden

'Hazaam' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12 in (30.5 cm) in height and 24 in (61.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its medium size suits placement in mixed borders, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. The yellow margin brightens with more light, but full sun may scorch the leaves; companion ferns or heucheras complement its subdued green-gold palette.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in the garden.
