Overview
Registered in 1986 by T. Donahue and the American Hosta Society, 'Sharmon' is a medium-sized hosta of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is a blue-green leaf with slight undulating margins, reaching 8.25 inches (21.0 cm) in length and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in width, with ten pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Sharmon' forms a dense clump 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter and 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height, with scapes rising to 28 inches (71.1 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the leaf color remains truest. Its medium size suits it for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like many hostas, 'Sharmon' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and the blue-green foliage may benefit from protection from afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch.
