Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Shark's Tooth' is a miniature hybrid derived from *H. venusta* (pod parent) and *H.* 'Teaspoon' (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its small, broadly ovate leaves with medium grayish green coloration, slightly serrated margins, and a dull upper surface with a slightly shiny underside.
In the Garden
This miniature hosta forms a compact, rhizomatous clump reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for shade to partial shade conditions, typical of hosta-growing zones, and performs well as a ground cover in small spaces or rock gardens. Its diminutive size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where its serrated leaf edges can be appreciated up close. Companion plants include other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
