Overview
Registered in 2014, 'Shaharazade' is a large hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinguished by its ovate, dark green leaves with a dull surface, each bordered by a narrow, golden yellow margin measuring approximately 0.375 inches (1.0 cm) wide, and by its wavy leaf margins.
In the Garden
'Shaharazade' forms a substantial, mound-like clump reaching up to 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its gold-margined foliage provides contrast against darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its large size makes it appropriate for use as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
