Overview
Registered in 1986 by P. Banyai, this medium-sized hosta produces leaves with medium green margins and a lighter center, creating a variegated effect. The parentage is unknown, but the cultivar is distinguished by its broad, ovate leaves with seven pairs of veins and a compact, mounded habit.
In the Garden
'Hosta' Serenity reaches approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. The scape rises to 26 inches (66.0 cm) with pale lavender flowers in midsummer. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its moderate size allows for use in mixed containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas with high pest pressure.
