Overview
Registered in 2012 from an open-pollinated cross with *Hosta sieboldiana* as the pod parent, 'September Moon' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, chartreuse-gold margins. The nearly round, heavily cupped foliage reaches 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) in both length and width, with 11 pairs of veins, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 44 inches (111.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or for mid-border placement in partial to full shade. Its fast growth rate and reported pest resistance allow it to establish quickly alongside other large-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The gold margins brighten shaded areas but may fade in deeper shade.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While noted for pest resistance, standard slug management is advisable in damp conditions, and typical hosta-growing zones apply.
