Overview

Registered in 2004 by D. Van Eechaute, this small-sized sport produces a mound of broadly ovate, intensely blue-green leaves with narrow (0.5 cm), pale yellow margins. The foliage carries a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and the plant is noted for its fragrant flowers.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Secret Love' reaches approximately 11 inches (28 cm) in height and 16 inches (40 cm) in diameter, forming a compact, mound-like habit with moderate growth. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is well suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small stature and fragrant blooms make it a useful companion for ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
