Overview
Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Seaside Splendor' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Sea Prize'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Tokudama'* (pollen parent). The plant is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green leaves with creamy white margins, often displaying unstable streaks of greenish white and creamy white within the leaf blade.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its moderate size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. The broadly ovate, moderately wavy leaves with cordate bases provide textural contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or astilbes.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the dull-surfaced leaves.
