Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, this large cultivar produces blue-green, deeply corrugated leaves with chartreuse to medium golden yellow margins. The broadly ovate, cupped foliage is dull on top with a glaucous bloom underneath, and the semi-upright habit gives the plant a substantial, textured presence in the landscape.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Sea Waves' reaches approximately 31 inches (78.7 cm) in height and spreads to 69 inches (175.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, corrugated leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture or color. The plant is not suited for container culture due to its size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as both pests may damage the foliage.
